Andrew King was born in Bedford in 1956. He studied at Hornsey College, London, where he gained a B.A Hons in Fine Art in 1978. In the same year he was awarded a David Murray Scholarship by the R.A School. He is currently a member of the RA Reynolds Club.

 

He has had paintings selected many times for exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London, commencing with the 'Britain in Watercolours' exhibition in 1978, the National Society (elected a member in 1984) the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, The New English Art Club, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Royal Society of Marine Artists. He has also had work accepted for the 'Discerning Eye' exhibition.

 

Andrew has exhibited with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters since 1985 when he was a finalist for the Windsor and Newton Young Artist's award and in 1986 he was made an associate member of the society. In 1992 he was elected to full membership and currently serves on the council.

 

Andrew has also shown work a number of times at the Open Exhibition of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour at the Bankside Gallery, London.

 

Though Andrew King paints mostly in East Anglia, he has also painted in France, Italy and Egypt. His work can be seen in many prominent galleries countrywide, including Aldeburgh, Holt, Norwich and London; and has been purchased for public, private and royal collections, both at home and overseas. In 2003 his work was purchased for The House of Lords art collection.

 

 His name has been included in 'Who's Who in Art' since 1986 and 'Who's Who in International Art' since 1987.
