Simon Bacon British, b. 1969

About

Simon Bacon was born in 1969 and he currently lives and works in Essex. Bacon studied at the London Atelier of Representational Art (2011), and completed postgraduate studies with Masters Degree in Sculptural Practice at Colchester School of Art (2013).  He also has a Masters Degree in Transpersonal Psychology and Consciousness studies and has been in private practice as an Osteopath for over 30 years.

Concerned with an existentialist approach to form, Bacon started working predominantly in bronze, exploring the human body, surface and form as well as existential ideas of fragility, being in the world and the relationship between the physical, psychological and spiritual elements that define us. He explored the process of sculpting as a meditative and expressive act in itself. As his work has developed, he has abstract these ideas further, distilling concepts of Body, Mind and the Spiritual in the form of Shape, Space, Tension and Flow. These elements are developed through more abstract forms which provide the viewer with flowing shapes, movements, and surfaces defined by their containment and juxtaposition with interconnecting spirals and lines of tension extending beyond the form. He is trying to reconcile and find harmony between tensions, anxieties and freedom and flow.

"I am striving for unity in my sculptures, and harmony with elements of structure and flow
