About
Working primarily with water-based media and oil, Teresa Lawler's art is heavily influenced by her accomplished career. She worked in the BBC design department and filled similar positions in other television and theatre institutions, in addition to her role as an academic in the UK, Singapore and Australia.
 
Throughout her career she has produced work that has been widely exhibited. She has participated in exhibitions around the globe such as the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the British Council, Singapore in addition to TV and theatre productions such as Jonathan Creek (BBC) and Deceit (ZooTango Theatre Australia).
 
Lawler studied Fine Art at Northumbria University and at the Slade Postgraduate School, University College London.  Her most recent paintings build on the idea of stylised, abstracted houses inserted into fictitious landscapes.
 

ARTIST STATEMENT

"My time as a designer in television and theatre has strongly influenced the painting that I now focus on. Screen imagery is frequently referenced, both in terms of creating scenic, architectural structures and in the use of deeply contrasting lighting and intense colour to create a dramatic effect."

 

AWARDS & DISTINCTIONS

Lawler was elected as a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 2021, where she has exhibited. She has participated in exhibitions around the globe, such as the  Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the British Council Singapore, and the Deceit Zoo Tango Theatre Australia Designer.
