About

…..how it begins.

Fiona takes inspiration from the places and objects that she loves. She goes for walks out every day, with her dog, and often gathers additional materials, so that stones, leaves and feathers become visual reminders of her experience.

The connection between the natural rhythms of the land and how it reflects our presence or the lack of it is a great love of Fiona's - the way that landscapes are shaped by ourselves and our ancestors, leaving marks and echoes through time.

She usually works on several pieces at the same time which allows her to explore ideas in a series of paintings.  Fiona's canvasses are often painted and repainted so that traces of the original images remain present, creating layers of marks, colour and interwoven history.

Fiona studied Fine Art at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, graduating in  1984. Her great-grandfather was the Pre-Raphaelite painter, Sir John Everett Millais.
