About
Max Tannahill hails from Bangor, County Down, in the north of Ireland. Now based in the heart of Essex, he carves and blacksmiths his unique animal sculptures using the plentiful supply of driftwood found in nearby estuaries.
Max derives influence from the time he spent in Australia, where he first encountered the Aboriginal art that continues to inform his practice today. He works from a self-renovated train carriage, which he found in the middle of a farmyard. This compact space is where his ideas take physical form, sometimes reaching up to nine metres in length.
