The suit has become an almost universal form of clothing, worn the world over.
This exhibition celebrates the suit, an attire developed and popularized in Britain during the 19th Century. However, we look not just at the suit, but the distinct aesthetic that surrounds a suit. Looking at the people who wear suits, as well as the places and events where a suit might be worn.
There are many types of suits for many different occasions, each with its own signature style and meaning. Much like our artists participating in this exhibition, each chooses to represent the people and places with a different style and meaning unique to them.
Be it a business suit in the city, in a romantic tone with grand buildings and lights, like that out of a film. Or, a morning suit finished off with a top hat, while down at the races on a bright summer day.
