This November, Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill and Thompson’s Gallery proudly present a solo exhibition by British artist Paul Wright in celebration of Sir Winston Churchill’s 150th anniversary. Known for his expressive style and emotional depth, Paul Wright has created six new paintings that offer an intimate look into Churchill’s life.
The exhibition, hosted in collaboration between Thompson’s Gallery and Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill will run throughout November, transforming the hotel lobby into a unique gallery space for guests and visitors.
The exhibition marks another exciting collaboration between Thompson’s Gallery, one of the UK's leading contemporary galleries, and Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill which shares a deep connection to British art and history. As long-time supporters of Paul Wright’s work, both the gallery and the hotel have played pivotal roles in showcasing his talent. Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill boasts two of Wright’s paintings in its permanent collection: a striking portrait of Churchill displayed behind reception, and a more intimate piece featuring Churchill and his wife Clementine, which adds a personal touch to the hotel’s restaurant.
The partnership between Thompson’s Gallery and Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill underscores a shared dedication to celebrating British culture and history through fine art. The exhibition showcases Paul Wright’s latest works,
including “Clemmie’s Shoes”, a tribute to Clementine Churchill, and “We Shall Never Surrender”, a symbolic reflection of Churchill’s wartime resolve. Other pieces explore Churchill’s private world at Chartwell House, blending Wright’s emotional depth with historical detail.
Paul Wright’s remarkable career includes recognition at the BP National Portrait Award in both 2006 and 2014, where he was shortlisted for the grand
prize. Thompson’s Gallery, which first discovered Wright at the BP Portrait Award in 2006, has championed his work ever since, representing him at numerous exhibitions and art fairs. Born in Leicester in 1973, Wright is a graduate of
the Falmouth School of Art (1995) and is recognised as one of Britain’s most dynamic contemporary painters. His intense style captures the emotional essence of his subjects, combining vibrant colours with quiet reflection.
